Galveston, Texas
July 23, 2009

The Galveston City Council passed an ordinance banning smoking in bars and restaurants Island-wide. The measure passed with Council members Beeton, Mahoney, Woods, and Mayor Thomas voting in favor and Council member Fennewald and Mayor Pro-Tem Weber casting dissenting votes. Councilmember Colbert was absent from tonight’s meeting. More than two hours of public comment, much of it regarding the proposed ordinance, preceded the vote.
